Teas

We create Blackwood teas from the bounty of herbs we grow in the regenerated Texas soil of our Kitchen and Hopscotch gardens, or from nutritive plants or herbs we forage from our own back yard (really, our “Back 10” acres, a newer section of land we are actively regenerating by integrating livestock, planting, and creating conditions to allow more native vegetation to thrive).

All Blackwood teas provide some therapeutic effect through the carefully selected combinations of ingredients, but also taste delicious. Our signature Morning on the Farm tea blend is our only caffeinated tea with naturally occuring caffeine and other energizing compounds from the wild yaupon.

Each Blackwood tea should be steeped at least 7 minutes, and it is virtually impossible to oversteep our teas. Have fun with your blend by adding in your favorite herbs and spices, and consider sweetening with one of our infused honeys or elderberry syrup.

Morning on the Farm Tea: 1 oz. bag ($12), 1.5 oz. tube ($18)

Ingredients: Wildcrafted yaupon holly leaves from our actively regenerating “Back 10” acres, Blackwood organically grown moringa and holy basil (tulsi)

Tulsi, Moringa, and Yaupon are the three ingredients that make up this powerful rejuvenating blend. This is a nutrient filled medicinal tea similar in taste to green tea with more aromatic and sweet notes added from the Tulsi herb.

Yaupon has a rich history as a U.S native, once suppressed and overlooked, a wild species from our woods, this ingredient is truly the root of our regenerative farm. Yaupon is a natural source for caffeine (studies show about 20% less than coffee), theobromine, and several polyphenols like chloregenic acids. It is known for improving brain function and reducing inflammation.

Second, tulsi, otherwise known as holy basil, is an ancient herb that has been used for its restorative powers for over 4000 years. Tulsi is rich in vitamin A, C, K, and is known to protect the organs and body from chemical stress, pollutants, and heavy metals. It is used in Ayurvedic medicine as a balancing herb. When stressed, tulsi calms, when foggy or tired, tulsi clears and awakes. It has a sweet aroma and has been specifically blended with moringa and yaupon for the perfect balance of flavor.

The third ingredient Moringa is an impressive super food that thrives in our local environment and grows like a native perennial. It has 7x more vitamin C than oranges, 3x more iron than spinach, 3x more potassium than bananas, 4x more vitamin a than carrots, 4x times more calcium than milk, and all 9 essential amino acids! These facts were founded and studied by a moringa specialist at Base 3 Farms.

In short, Morning on the Farm is our naturally energizing signature tea blend with yaupon (a native green tea to the Gulf Coast loaded with antioxidants and energizing compounds theobromine and theophylline), superfood moringa, and healing, adaptogenic tulsi (holy basil).

Breath of Fresh Air Tea: 1 oz. bag ($12)

Mullein leaf is high in iron magnesium, potassium, and sulfur. It has been used for centuries as an expectorant, aiding the lungs and even as a disinfectant when brewing the leaves in a tea. The active component in turmeric is known as curcumin, which is a natural anti-inflammatory. Gingerol, the active sought after medicinal ingredient in ginger, is an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory as well, known to help with oxidative stress, nausea, digestive health, and indigestion. Drinking this tea is literally giving your body a breath of fresh air as overall it reduces stress and inflammation.”

Venus Tea: 1 oz. bag ($12)

Ingredients: Blackwood organically grown lemon verbena, lemongrass, blackberry leaf, and hyssop

A tea supporting the gut-brain connection with soothing digestive-aiding herbs.

Lemon Verbena is rich in phenolic compounds, reducing oxidative stress and aiding in digestive ease. Hyssop is rich in flavanoids which help oxidative stress. The primary benefits hyssop is known for is helping the liver, gallbladder, intestines, and even colon. Studies have shown that hyssop specifically helps with the oxidative stress in red blood cells. Its strength in antioxident activity in red blood cells helps both gut and brain health. Lemongrass is a perennial, also great for the liver, soothing to the body and full of flavanoids. Blackberry leaf is high in vitamin C, hydrolysable tannins, all which provide immune boosting and anti-inflammatory properties.
