$25Based on feedback from past students and their parents, Blackwood Educational Land Institute is proud to announce a modified version of our “Back to the Basics” program for teens and adults as a series of skills-based workshops taking place this Spring.
Each workshop is from 10 AM to 3 PM with a noon break for lunch. The cost is just $25 per workshop per person with the option for lunch prepared by Blackwood for $10, or you can feel free to bring a lunch.
- March 13th – Outdoor & Weather-Related Risks: For our first week, Blackwood Educational Land Institute and wilderness medicine expert Tim Graham are proud to offer a workshop on “Outdoor & Weather-Related Safety Risks” to all. As we witnessed over Winter Storm Uri, we’re just one power outage or extreme weather event away from being exposed to the elements. Are you prepared? In advance of our annual Wilderness Advanced First Aid certification course Tim will lead us in an overview of evaluating and mitigating physical safety risks when outdoors, whether you’re in the great outdoors or the urban jungle.
- This series is also a preview of our intensive Wilderness Advanced First Aid Course starting Sunday, March 14th. Learn more about WAFA certification here >>
- March 20th – Food from Seed-to-Plate: The second week will focus on food from seed to plate, with an overview of regenerative agriculture, ancestral health and nutrition, and basic outdoor cooking techniques.
- March 27th – Principles of Living on the Land: The third week will focus on principles of living on the land, where we will practice outdoor movement, learn basic bushcraft like fire building and water sourcing and purification, and discuss low impact building and other sustainability methods to live harmoniously with nature even in the big city.
Whether you attend one or all of these workshops, our goal is that each participant leaves with a better understanding of what it means to survive and thrive as a human animal inherently connected to nature!
This workshop is open to all age and experience levels and is part of our Back to the Basics for Adult Workshop Series. Learn more about the series here >>
