School and Group Visits

We love visitors!

Blackwood's mission would not be possible without a multitude of curious minds, young and old, coming in and out of the farm gates. We welcome a wide range of different groups to tour the property, get their hands dirty working with soil, learn to cook with farm fresh ingredients, or anything else you can think of! We are eager to work with you and curate the best experience for your group. Visits can be for a single day or multiple days. Below is a list of pertinent information but is by no means exhaustive. Scout Troops, Home, Public, and Private Schools

We offer age-appropriate, multidisciplinary programs for students from 1st through 12th grades. Students learn about agriculture firsthand on a working farm, including everything from food cycles to soil science. Whether you’re part of a scout troop or a home, public, or private school, we accommodate your school’s pedagogy.

Gardening Groups, Clubs, Colleges, Corporations, and Family/Friend Groups

We also offer tours and group experiences for clubs, college groups, and corporations, and family and friend groups! We can curate your program to include team building, mindfulness, exercise, farm education, or simply fresh air in the forest.

With each school and group tour we:

• Introduce the concept of food systems.
• Teach how food is grown, what makes a system sustainable, and the value of a healthy diet filled with locally grown meat and produce.
• Show that it is possible—and advantageous—to grow food without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or other artificial inputs.

Field trips are optionally TEKS relevant and geared toward your subject and larger curriculum.

When to Visit

Single-day visits and multi-day trips are available Tuesday - Saturday from August to May. Multi-day trips can carry through Sunday as desired.

Group Size Limits

We can accommodate groups up to 50 with a chaperone to student ratio of 1:10 (including chaperones, we can go up to 55 for groups of 50 with 5 chaperones).
