SUMMARY:Tour the Skyfarm
DESCRIPTION:The Blackwood Skyfarm at POST Houston is available for educational tours to groups\, schools\, businesses\, and more each week by appointment\, made at least 48 hours in advance. Our availability for tours is Thursday 8 AM to 12 PM\, Friday 12 PM to 2 PM\, and Saturday 2 PM to 4 PM. Our standard introductory tour lasts for one hour but can be expanded to either a two-hour deep dive or a four-hour educational volunteer day.\n\n\nAt our introductory tour\, we walk our current crops and demonstrate how the Skyfarm blends both ancestral\, regenerative food production practices and 21st-century technologies to produce organic food with fewer food miles and a lower carbon footprint. The tour will also include a seasonal food education component inspired by our current crops. Each visitor will leave with an understanding of the climate impact of our conventional food system\, how farming practices deployed at the Blackwood Landfarm in Hempstead and Skyfarm at POST Houston help to mitigate the effects of greenhouse gas emissions\, and the benefits of locally grown\, nutrient-dense foods and plant medicine.\n\nBy envisioning and building the Skyfarm\, POST Houston shows that the sky is the limit for far-sighted leaders to learn how to transform a historically short-sighted city. Blackwood is thrilled to be a part of this collaboration and to be blazing new trails toward Houston’s green future. Please join us!\n\nTours are open to the public\, and the suggested donation for those who are able is $10 per person. To schedule a tour\, please email info@blackwoodland.org.

SUMMARY:Climate Fresk Game Night at the Skyfarm: Understand Climate Change in Three Hours
DESCRIPTION:You don’t have to be a scientist to help tackle climate change! Join the Climate Fresk! \nClimate Fresk is a workshop that helps you to learn the facts of climate change through a playful and participative\, scientific serious game. \nIn just three hours\, the collaborative Climate Fresk workshop will teach you the fundamental science behind climate change and empower you to take action. It’s scientific\, it’s accessible\, it’s effective! \nThe way it works: You will be placed in in groups of 6-8 players to begin to understand the complex story of the causes and consequences for the climate. By leveraging the collective knowledge of the participants you will be able to gather ideas for actions to carry forth into your communities. \nThis event is sponsored by Central City Co-Op\, Blackwood Educational Land Institute\, Citizens Environmental Coalition and the Climate Fresk organization. It will be held from 6-9 pm at the POST Houston\, 401 Franklin Street\, on the rooftop next to the garden.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Blackwood Educational Land Institute and POST HTX at our first fundraising reception for the Blackwood Skyfarm! \nJoin us in sharing a toast to and sowing the very seeds for Houston’s green future! \nLearn about Blackwood Educational Land Institute and hear our plans for the one-of-a-kind\, one-acre rooftop farm atop POST HTX while enjoying wine and dessert with the Houston skyline as our backdrop. We’ll sip and sow into the early evening with eco-friendly wines specially selected by our friends at Central City Co-Op and a seasonal dessert made by Blackwood’s very own Chef Cade. \nEach guest will partake in helping us grow\, literally\, by assisting in sowing our first crops at the Skyfarm and will receive two glasses of wine\, plus a Strawberry Rhubarb Flower Pot for dessert. VIP tickets holders will leave with extra take-home goodies fresh from our farm in Hempstead. Other educational activities will include blending your very own signature herb tea. \nThe Houston skyline will be the perfect backdrop for your V-Day selfies to commemorate the moment\, and Blackwood will you forever for helping us to raise funds for a community urban rooftop farm unlike any other in the world. We can’t wait to see you Monday\, February 14th from 5-8pm at 401 Franklin Street on the Skylawn!
