Event Series Event Series: Open Farm Days at the Skyfarm

Open Skyfarm Days

February 28 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm CST

Our revamped weekly Open Farm Day is your chance to experience the Blackwood Skyfarm at POST Houston for after-school/after-work education each and every week.

Each Open Farm Day begins with a one-hour interactive tour of the Skyfarm followed by an hour-long food or farming lesson.

Weekly on Wednesdays, year-round.

  • 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM until the Spring Equinox (Wednesday, March 13), 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM between Spring and Autumn Equinox (Wednesday, March 20 – Wednesday, September 18)
  • Return to 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM from Wednesday, September 25, 2024 to Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
  • Free and open to all, with RSVP required to communicate on special instructions.
  • We no longer have Open Farm Days on Sundays.

Each week alternates between a Community Food Lesson or Community Farm lesson:

  • Community Food Lessons are hands-on sessions where you will learn how to make simple nutrient-dense foods or plant-based medicine using seasonal produce and herbs, and maybe even take something home!
  • Community Farm Lessons are also hands-on experiential learning sessions where you become an urban farmer for the day, picking up tips on how to start and nurture your own home, school, or community garden.
  • Our new programming schedule begins Wednesday, February 7 with the Commnity Farm Lesson topic “Growing Onions in Houston.”
  • Check back here each week for our upcoming topics. Future topics will include “Seasonal Lacto-Ferments & Kim Chi”, “Herbalism & Plant Medicine for Beginners,” “Gardening with Changing Seasonality,” “Seasonal Garden Pestos,” and more.
