8:30am to 10:30am. Propagation and Harvesting with Hans Hansen, Blackwood’s Head Horticulturist at Blackwood Land’s teaching farm in Hempstead, TX.
11:00am-Noon. Making Compost Workshop
Hans believe the best compost is made in the backyard by hand or with equipment available to the small grower. He will demonstrate how compost is made at Blackwood with a manure spreader. He will also construct a simple home system, explain and demonstrate the fundamentals of composting: readily available raw materials, what proportions, how to construct a simple bin or pile, and how to maintain it. The process can be as easy or as challenging as you choose.
